About Academy Swim Club in Valencia, CA

Nikki Miller, a SCV resident, is the founder and director of the Academy Swim Club, dedicated to helping save lives in our beautiful valley. It all started after one life-changing incident in 1994. After their babysitter had left, Nikki and her husband Jim came home to find wet clothes and vomit on the deck. They soon realized their one year old, Dakota, had crawled into the spa while the babysitter was inside on the phone. Their barely four year old swimmer Garrett, unable to reach him or stand on the bottom of the spa, jumped in and pulled his brother from the spa, saving his life. This tragic event caused Jim and Nikki to dedicate their lives to water safety education. They wanted to do whatever they could to help prevent these events from happening again. Through their passion, they established the Academy Swim Club to provide life-saving education and support to the community. Thanks to Nikki and Jim’s hard work and dedication, the Academy Swim Club continues to help save lives today.

Intro to Baby Swim

Intro to Baby Swim is completed in 1 month with 8 lessons (30 min each), two times per week. Babies learn by rote, needing lots of repetition and reinforcement for skills to be acquired. After Intro to Baby Swim graduation, you continue on into Baby Swim classes once, or twice, per week – whichever you prefer. Intro to Baby Swim and Baby Swim classes are the same price. Baby Swim classes can then be continued on a monthly basis. See Baby Swim for more information.

Baby Swim

Baby Swim is our Advanced Class for Infants. However, this does not mean that the babies are more advanced. This means that the parents who go into the water with their babies have already learned the skills to teach their babies with our methods and philosophy behind them. This class reinforces skills learned in Intro to Baby Swim, with some new skills and developmentally challenging activities. We also help troubleshoot individual differences in skill acquisition, and we combine activities to increase the challenge with your advancing baby.

Private Lessons

One-on-one, private lessons are the most efficient way to learn to swim for any age, but they are especially recommended for the fearful or very shy child. Individualized attention allows instructors to focus on skills needed, and breeze through those skills more easily attained or already mastered by the student. Our primary goal is to teach our students how to relax, appreciate and love the water. We are more interested in the quality of the stroke than speed, for as the stroke improves, it becomes easier, and speed naturally increases.
