About McFarland Community Ice Arena in McFarland, WI
In the late 1980s, a group of people in McFarland, Wisconsin, initiated the McFarland Youth Hockey Association (MYHA). With 140 skaters ranging in age from 4 to high school, the association was in need of a larger, indoor home ice. MYHA began fundraising to build their own ice arena, and the odds seemed insurmountable. Luckily, a deal was struck with Harvey Peterson, who owned a farm on the north edge of the Village. He offered 20 acres at $2,800/acre to MYHA, which sold a portion of the property to the Village in exchange for the land and zoning for the ice arena.
This became a sports complex with the soccer fields and indoor ice arena. In 1994, the grand opening of the arena was celebrated with an open skate for the public during the McFarland Family Festival weekend. The arena has been maintained by qualified ice technicians and is second to none in the area. Located a few minutes from the Highway Beltline and only 15 minutes from downtown Madison, the arena provides convenient access to an array of restaurants.
MYHA is an independently owned facility operating as a 501c3 non-profit organization with the flexibility to suit the needs of the community. The organization has been a great asset to the Village of McFarland and its surrounding areas, providing a safe and enjoyable space for skaters of all ages.
