In the sunny, alligator-filled world of Florida, there exists a troupe of brainy kids who are masters of a truly magical game. This game, my friends, is not about speed or strength but about wits and strategy. It’s Chess! Now, don't go yawning or rolling your eyes! The Chess Players of the Sunshine State, as they are fondly known, are nothing short of super-cool heroes battling on ivory and ebony squares.

Let me introduce you to their jolly leader, Checkmate Charlie. Charlie isn't your average kid. He's got a funky head of curls, a freckle constellation on his nose, and a grin that could outshine a Key West sunset. No, he doesn't fly or shoot lasers from his eyes. Charlie's superpower lies in his brain. He can see a chessboard in his mind, with pieces moving like clockwork, always ten steps ahead of his opponent.

In Florida, where oranges are sweeter and the sun shines brighter, kids from Miami to Tallahassee join Charlie on this epic chess journey. Some swim through the swampy Everglades, while others dodge the eccentric tourists in Disney World, all to reach their sacred chessboard.

They're not just kids; they're knights and queens, rooks, and bishops, all engaged in a thrilling dance of strategy and intellect. Each Chess Player is as unique as the state's diverse species of turtles, and together they bring a special kind of magic to Florida. It's where flamingos strut, dolphins flip, rockets launch into space, and where kids, just like you, make chess pieces dance to their tunes. And remember kids, in the chess world of Checkmate Charlie, it’s always fun and games until someone loses their Queen!

Welcome to the wonderful world of Swift Nature Camp an overnight camp for boys and girls ages 6-15 located in the beautiful Northwoods of Wisconsin. 

 I’m Lonnie, the Camp Director, and I’m thrilled to share what makes SNC such a special place for kids and families alike. For nearly 30 years, our mission has been to create an environment where children can grow, discover, and make lifelong memories. Here at camp, we focus on friendship, personal development, and a deep connection to nature—all in a fun, supportive, and adventurous setting. All this without cell phones
One of the things that sets Swift Nature Camp apart is our focus on fostering independence and confidence. Whether it’s trying a new activity like canoeing, taking on a leadership role in a group project, or simply navigating life away from home, camp provides endless opportunities for personal growth. We celebrate each camper’s unique personality and encourage them to step outside their comfort zone in a safe and nurturing way. Seeing kids gain new skills and pride in their accomplishments is one of the most rewarding parts of what we do.

For our youngest campers, Discovery Camp is an especially magical experience. Designed only for first-time campers ages 6-12, this shorter program gives kids a chance to experience the joys of camp life in a way that’s just right for them. It’s amazing to watch these kids try new things—from learning about the natural world to singing campfire songs—and leave camp with big smiles and even bigger stories to tell. Discovery Camp is often the beginning of a long and cherished relationship with SNC, and we’re so proud to see those first-time campers grow into confident and capable young people.

Another cornerstone of Swift Nature Camp is our connection to the environment. We believe that nature isn’t just a backdrop for camp; it’s a teacher, a playground, and a source of endless wonder. Through hands-on activities like pond studies, wildlife observation, and outdoor adventures, campers develop an appreciation for the natural world that stays with them long after camp ends. The Camp Zoo is always a favorite, campers can even adopt a pet while at camp.Our goal is to inspire kids to become curious, mindful stewards of the environment.

At Swift Nature Camp, there’s never a dull day! With hundreds of land and water activities, campers are always engaged and excited. On land, some favorites include the Lego Cabin, Arts & Crafts, Archery, and exploring the Nature Center. On the water, campers learn Canoeing, Fishing, and Swimming, but the absolute favorites are Tubing behind the boat and jumping off the Water Trampoline. Never is there a dull day because every day is packed with fun, adventure, and opportunities to try something new.
Of course, none of this would be possible without the amazing friendships that form here. SNC is a place where kids truly feel like they belong. Campers and counselors alike bring warmth, kindness, and enthusiasm to everything we do, creating a strong sense of community. Whether it’s cheering each other on during a game, collaborating on a creative project, or sharing laughs around the campfire, the bonds formed at Swift Nature Camp are something truly special.

With three convenient locations in Miami-Dade area, Wise Choice offers a unique summer learning experience directed by Florida certified teachers. Our camp also ensures campers have a fun time with weekly educational field trips and thematic sessions, and the opportunity to develop social skills. On Fridays, campers present a weekly report based on the theme of the week.

Our start-up Chess Club in South Miami is the premier chess facility in the Sunshine State. We are committed to providing a rewarding and challenging experience to chess players of all levels. Our multi-level approach to promoting the game of chess includes tournaments, lectures, and private lessons, so everyone from beginners to experts can hone their skills. Our goal is to help all of our members become better chess players and to foster a greater appreciation of the game.

South Miami Chess Club

At our chess academy, we are proud to offer an enriching experience for individuals of all ages and levels. Our Grand Master and certified coach by the International Chess Federation provides private and group lessons to help players of all skills develop the game. We also offer after-school programs and organize tournaments, giving chess enthusiasts a chance to explore their passion.

Beyond the fun and educational elements of chess, our experts are uniquely qualified to also provide chess as a creative therapy strategy. We can help clients increase self-awareness and build more effective therapeutic relationships by playing chess in a caring and safe environment. YM Chess Academy

Chris Stormont and The Stormont Kings Chess Program have been teaching the game of chess since 1991. As a child, he was taught by his father and joined his first chess club at South Miami Middle School. From there, he was invited to compete in a tournament against West Miami Middle School, where he tied for first place.

This success led the way for Chris to start his own chess club. After meeting a man running a chess club on weekends for children, he was inspired to start his own program. The Stormont Kings grew from offering lessons and teaching at schools to conducting tournaments and more at multiple locations in Dade and Broward Counties.

At Academy Prep Center of Tampa, students attend school ten and a half hours a day, six days a week and eleven months a year. Academic classes are divided by gender, and the curriculum is designed to help each student reach their potential. The school is committed to providing an education that is both rigorous and innovative, and offers a variety of activities, such as student clubs and sports teams, to further student learning and development. The school also offers support and guidance services to prepare students for college and career.

Welcome to the Manasota Chess Center, located in the Crossings at Siesta Key mall in Sarasota! Our center is the only active US Chess Federation affiliate in the Sarasota metro area and one of only fifteen US Chess Federation Gold level affiliates nationwide. Since June, 2021, we have been providing the local chess community with a diverse selection of chess programs and services, including in-person casual chess games, competitive monthly USCF-rated tournaments, weekly chess ladder, chess study groups, private and group lessons, and scholastic coaching options.

Our unique dedicated location and our experienced USCF certified coaches, including FIDE Grandmasters, have allowed us to serve the Sarasota, Manatee, Charlotte, and DeSoto counties chess community with a safe and permanent building. With more than 100 members, the Manasota Chess Center continues to grow and welcomes new players to join us.
