Ohio, a state known for its cornfields, humming cities, and the sparkling Lake Erie, is as full of personality as a peanut butter sandwich is to jelly. This magical place is where the Dance Dynamites roll up, each kid a bright spark in the Ohio sky. These sprightly sprouts are not your everyday Ohio kids. They're as bendy as buckeye branches and as spry as speedy squirrels. The leader of this supernova crew is a character as cool as a cucumber, Captain Funky Footwork. He's not just a regular boy from Toledo. With his disco-ball helmet, shoes that tie themselves, and a heart as big as the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, he's a true icon in the Dance Dynamite's universe. Captain Funky Footwork and the Ohio Dance Dynamites are always ready to pop, lock, and drop it! They believe that each river in Ohio beats with a rhythmic flow and every cornfield rustles like a maraca. And so, they dance - in Dayton, in Cleveland, in Columbus, and even in the smallest of Ohio towns. Their dance is not just a regular two-step or a ballet pirouette, it’s a jumble of giggles, wiggles, and Ohio pride, that makes every adult wish they could swing their hips like a hula hoop too. Dayton Contemporary Dance Company was founded in 1968 to create performance opportunities for dancers of color. Five decades later, the 10th largest modern contemporary dance company in the nation remains rooted in the African-American experience and committed to the development of diverse movement artists on the global stage. A co-recipient of one of the dance world’s highest honors, the 2016 Bessie Award for Outstanding Revival, DCDC has been presented by American Dance Festival, Paul Taylor American Modern Dance, and Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival, and supported by National Endowment for the Arts and New England Foundation for the Arts among others.
We not only hope to teach you dancing and / or twirling, but also to develop self-confidence, grace, body coordination, memorization skills, rhythm, and eye / hand coordination with baton and flag. In addition, a healthy competitive spirit and the opportunity for artistic expression! My dream studio at last!! It has two large 40×40 teaching dance rooms, wood floors, mirrors, etc.! We can have Production Practice at the studio! No more band room! I am so excited! Although, when I moved into my present studio, I thought that was my dream studio, except I wanted larger dance rooms! Now, here it is! We have it all!! Join us! It is performed in many cultures as a form of emotional expression, social interaction, or exercise, in a spiritual or performance setting, and is sometimes used to express ideas or tell a story.
We offer a non-competitive environment for students to learn. We utilize positive reinforcement, small class sizes (5-10), and a family oriented environment. Not only do we use classic instruction, but we also use other methods including games to allow the children to have fun while learning.
